Mike covers blocking in this video series. Broken down are key points to the swing block, blocking the outsides in position two and position four, how to play in transition and finally what a blockers mentality must be.
Points discussed in each video include:
Video 1. The swing block is often used in one on one situations. The outside foot must be turned in and planted firmly so the blocker does not drift off the court.
Video 2. There are two different types of swing blocks. Using the cross over step the player covers more court and is quicker to the outside. Using a step like an approach seals off the inside of the court.
Video 3. In position four always line up with mid-line of the body on the hitters shoulder. The left hand must press down the line toward position one to avoid being tooled. The right hand can press into the angle and take more chances.
Video 4. In position two the same procedures applies. Line up the mid-line of the body on the hitters shoulder. On this side, the right hand presses down the line to area five. The left hand can press into the angle and take more chances.
Video 5. Transition blockers often get tooled by starting inside then move out. The player should start on the outside then move in if needed to seal the middle.
Video 6. Mentally blockers must always attack the ball. Reach out and work to take the ball away from the hitter.
